Back Basin has impressive geysers like Echinus Geyser, while Porcelain Basin is home to many hot springs, vents and pools. Echinus Geyser is the most popular of all the geysers at Norris but recently has become very unpredictable. Echinus usually erupts every 2 hours-4 days — not necessarily one you want to wait around for… Watch as its large crater slowly fills with water.

The clay and the steam pushing through it create natural occurrences and the most popular attraction in the basin, the Fountain Paint Pots. Additional liquid at different times of the year gives the paint pots their characteristic look of bubbling, blended mud.

Although Midway Geyser Basin is small, it is home to some of the largest single hot springs in the world. The last two require a moderate hike behind the Grand Prismatic. Notice the steam that is suspended in the air directly above the large spring.

The steam reflects the colors of the rainbow. Located between the Old Faithful area and the Biscuit Basin road, the Upper Geyser Basin contains several groups of hot springs, including over geysers. The basin is less than a half-mile wide and most of its geothermal features are situated within a few hundred feet of the Firehole River.
