Chris was married to a drop-dead gorgeous model named Regine Jaffry. It was a nice shoot. Chris photographed them against a wire fence, similar to one you would see in a playground. After the shoot, I was packing up my makeup, ready to leave and Chris came back into the room. What did I get myself into? I had just come back from a summer at Fire Island Pines, where we were all mostly nude or topless. It was !

I just told him I would keep my boots on because I was so short and that would make me feel better. I figured I would just be a prop — someone in the shadows, never really seen and only there so Gia would have someone to respond to. I had a vision in my mind of the very glamour photos that Helmut Newton would do featuring two women. I remember a lot about that day. He had gotten that into his studio and set it up, and he positioned the two models against the fence, and the lovely pictures were taken, and they were printed for Vogue.

These photos that can never be duplicated, not in movies or photos, and I am proud to be a part of history as, unfortunately, I am the only one now living.

Chris died in a car crash in Before his death, he gave me two autographed prints that I treasure. The day after the shoot, late in the afternoon, my phone rang and it was Gia.

It was never a torrid sexual affair but we did love each other. This never happened again with a woman in my lifetime. We spent a lot of time together, going to clubs, restaurants, just out all the time.

One of her first shoots saw her pose nude behind a chain-link fence with make-up artist Sandy Linter for photographer Chris von Wangenheim. The shoot was her breakout moment, and led to her modelling for labels including Versace and Dior, and legendary photographers like Helmut Newton and Arthur Elgort. Cooper became a mother figure to Gia, whose own mum abandoned her when she was just 11, so when she died in the model was devastated. The drug trend at that time shifted to heroin, which brought coke users down when they were too high.

Usually Gia snorted heroin, with the common understanding that people could only get addicted through needles — which was false. A generation of accidental junkies was born, of which Gia was a part. She garnered notoriety for scandalous stories like shooting up heroin in bathrooms during breaks, and on a Versace shoot with Richard Avedon she told everyone she was going out for cigarettes and never returned.

I know there were those closer to Gia that knew more and didn't appreciate it, but I did, and I miss her. Angelina Jolie did some very serious acting to bring this part of Gia's life to the screen. The movie was of theatrical quality and its a shame it didn't get that release.

But thanks to this movie, there was a great deal of Gia's life I knew nothing about after 17 years old. But the ending was what touched me, because that is how I will remember Gia, and wish for everyone to remember her as well, even with the rough and gritty content contained in her life brought to screen.

This is a hard must see for those who think a model's life is exciting, it can be, but they will also learn its nothing without the love of your parents, stable friends and relationships and the love of yourself - no matter what yourself may be.
