The AI video game character that influenced an industry New, 8 comments. It was very draining. Yeah, I hope so. There are a lot of things being tested in this game. What video games did you play growing up? What was one of your favorite memories from gaming back then?

What are your thoughts of how much video games have evolved since then? How familiar were you with the Halo franchise before this opportunity for Cortana came up? Have you ever gone online and played against those Halo gamers, and how did you do? What was it like bringing Cortana to life in Halo 4? What were some of the challenges of performance capture? Did you ever get used to the skin-tight suit and all the sensors? Were you able to interact with other actors during the performance capture?

How much of the game were you able to play or see during this process? What are your thoughts on how far games have come today as entertainment? How do you think this role in Halo 4 will change your life? Cortana is only designed to stay alive for seven years and then the program starts decomposing. Will she be okay? Will she?

Will you come back as Cortana? One fan, however, wanted to experience what Cortana would be like if Microsoft had developed the assistant with her holographic humanoid body in tow. The result is an AI assistant capable of responding to user queries, swiping and sliding tiny versions of different applications with her holographic body. The impressive interactive display was built by a Halo fan named Jarem Archer, and while it's still a work-in-progress, the display is quite capable of assisting with queries, and even tracks the user's face so that Cortana is always facing the right direction.

The device uses an illusion called the Pepper's Ghost technique, which utilizes mirrors to project the appearance of a 3D object — in this case, Cortana. She's running on a Windows 10 device with only 4GB of RAM, in tandem with some Arduino-run light displays to give her the light she needs to exist in the 3D realm. Impressively, Jarem 3D printed each part of the assembly, with the end result being a futuristic-looking light pyramid complete with an omni-directional microphone and a solid speaker setup.

For Cortana herself, a Unity 3D application both presents and animates her holographic form using three different camera angles.
