Use less paint that you think you should. I dipped one side of my mini roller into the paint and then rolled it in the tray until the roller no longer looked wet and shinny. Then, I rolled it 6 or 7 times on a folded up paper towel. It will take 4 or 5 passes on the stencil to get the coverage you want, but you will have very few bleeds or fuzzy edges when you remove the stencil. Remember that you WILL have a few bleeds. There is simply no way around this on a textured wall. Stand a few feet back from your wall to see the areas that need to be touched up.
If you stand too close to the wall, you will drive yourself crazy touching up everything in sight. Have you ever tried to stencil on a textured wall? Ensure you use the right stencil for your task. In addition to this, the tape you use for securing the stencil to the surface should be specially made for textured walls. Dip the brush tip into your paint. Offload extra paint on a paper towel. As a matter of fact, you should not put too much paint on the stencil brush.
Any extra paint will lead to major bleeding on your walls. When you're filling in the stencil pattern with paint, you should transfer the stencil pattern properly using a circular rubbing motion or light stippling motion. Make sure to allow for sufficient drying time before removing the stencil. You will smudge the transferred stencil pattern if the paint has not dried and is still wet.
Reposition your stencil carefully as it will smudge if the paint is still wet. On top of that, your pattern will be off totally if the stencil is not repositioned correctly. Please keep in mind that stencil errors are bound to happen on textured walls.
So, use a detail brush to fix minor errors quickly. A good stencil will last for a long time to come with proper care and storage. However, it is essential to care and clean your stencil properly between uses. Not storing the wall stencil properly can bend stencil pieces and it may not lay flat. In addition to this, leftover paint on the stencil edges will interfere with the quality of the stencil pattern. Stenciling is a good way to create beautiful effects on your textured walls.

That bee stencil changed the look of your entire pantry. We thought the same thing, Bonnie! So glad you like the results of the pantry so far. This stencil was super easy to use if you ever decide to try something like this too. Stencil Revolution has a lot great options and the prices are good too. Thank you bunches, Denise! You definitely have to take your time. The results we got from hand stenciling was a lot better than the results we got trying to use a roller so keep that in mind too.
It made a huge difference for our tiny pantry. Hugs, CoCo. Hey CoCo — stenciling the pantry walls was well worth the effort! The painted effect has added so much dimension and texture. Plus — who can resist the charm of French Bees? Beautiful job…we love following your progress!
Thanks so much ladies! We cannot get over what a difference the French Bee stencil made in such a tiny space. I would definitely do something like this again. When you get to the wall, start lightly at first. Lift the screen to check the look and adjust as needed. You will find that you will get some areas that fill in more solidly with paint. These will even out with the layers to come. As you move across the wall or surface, overlap the metallic ribbon a few inches over the previously painted area.
The Chalk Paint will dry very quickly and there should be no need to wait for a previous area to dry. Try to keep the paint application consistent by offloading the paint roller well each time you reload it with paint. You will find that the metallic ribbon will start to fill in a bit over a large area, so simply cut off a new piece of ribbon to use as needed. Randomly dry brushing thinned layers of paint here and there.
This will add more visual texture and also help to tone down and soften the first layer. You will dry brush first with the Antoinette.
On the wall, use a very light but even pressure and pull the brush straight down while holding it at a low angle. It may take some practice to get a feel for it, but truthfully dry brushing is a very random finish. Just be patient, go slow, and always start with a light pressure. Use the Antoinette color to soften and break up areas that may have gotten too solidly filled in with the Scandinavian Pink. Then, repeat the process with the French Linen color.
Stencil the Corsini Damask 0r stencil pattern of your choice first overall with French Linen.
